At least five prominent figures in the Obidient Movement, a support group backing Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential bid under the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, have been left out of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council.
DAILY POST reports that the opposition party unveiled its campaign council members over the weekend ahead of the January 16 elections.
However, some prominent supporters, who played significant roles in mobilising votes for Obi during the 2023 presidential election, were conspicuously absent from the list.
Those missing include Aisha Yesufu, a chieftain of the party, political commentator, Isaac Fayose, Moses Paul, popularly known as Dr Mo, a former Secretary-General of the Obidient Movement, Precious Oruche, also known as Mama Pee, a grassroots mobiliser and Peter Akah, popularly known as Randy Peter.
The absence of the prominent Obidient figures is noticeable considering their contributions to the mobilisation efforts that boosted Obi’s support base during the 2023 general election.
The development has sparked online reactions, with several netizens mocking members of the Obidient movement, especially Aisha Yesufu.
An X user, @JohnFanimoku wrote: “Aisha Yesufu, the perennial “cashtivist,” must be in tears; NDC campaign money is going into a designated account, not personal pockets. How will she cope?”
Similarly, Lere Olayinka, a media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike wrote: “NDC supreme national leader do Campaign Council finish, Aisha Yesufu no dey among. E no good nah”.
