The immediate past Governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has warned the teeming supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state against premature celebration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former Governor said the political landscape should compel every supporter, interest group, and association to go to the grassroots and mobilise for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and all candidates of the party.
Okowa urged them not to be deceived by the presence of the mammoth crowd at rallies and gatherings but to embark on door-to-door, one-on-one and group-to-group engagements to explain the transformative reforms of the present Federal Government that had germinated, borne fruit and were about to be harvested.
He challenged the party supporters and campaigners to work towards delivering over two million votes for the President and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, while stressing the need for victory across all elective positions.
Okowa, who campaigned vigorously for President Tinubu at the Oleh and Isoko rally in Delta, acknowledged the economic difficulties facing Nigerians but said, “The economic reforms of the Tinubu administration were aimed at addressing the challenges of Nigeria. The Federal Government’s reforms were already producing better results. I urged all our supporters to focus on grassroots mobilisation instead of any premature celebration.”
He said the state decided to align with the Federal Government when it collapsed the structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC for accelerated development.
He commended the economic reforms of the President, even as he observed that “increased revenue allocations had strengthened the capacity of state and local governments to execute projects and meet their obligations.”
