The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, disclosed this in an update on the power situation dated Friday, November 6, 2026, acknowledging the hardship caused by persistent electricity outages in four affected states, including Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to the minister, planned maintenance at the Egbin Power Station and constraints in gas supply to some thermal power plants have reduced the amount of electricity available on the national grid.

He explained that grid operators had consequently introduced load shedding in some areas to manage the shortfall.
Tegbe also attributed the disruption to the sabotage of key transmission lines, which he said had restricted the use of alternative routes to supply electricity to some locations, particularly Lagos.
The minister said his team was working to return affected generating units to service in phases, with the first units expected to come back online within the next 48 to 72 hours.
He added that efforts were also ongoing with operators to improve gas supply and accelerate repairs to damaged infrastructure.
Tegbe appreciated electricity consumers affected by the outages for their patience, promising further updates as power supply is gradually restored.
