The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have challenged the re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, as the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal displayed two petitions filed over the August 15, 2026, governorship election.
The petitions were pasted on the notice board of the tribunal secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, September 7, formally commencing the legal process over the election result that returned Adeleke for another term.
The development followed confirmation by the Secretary of the Tribunal, Pefe Belemore, that petitions challenging the outcome of the election had been filed.
Belemore had earlier stated that the necessary notices would be displayed on the tribunal’s notice board before noon on Monday.

At the tribunal secretariat, Belemore and other officials were present in the courtroom as preparations continued for the commencement of proceedings.
The APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by its candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, against Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The PDP petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.
The August 15 governorship election was won by Adeleke, who secured 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji of the APC polled 444,815 votes, according to the results declared by INEC.
The display of the petitions is a procedural step that allows the parties involved to be served with the relevant processes before the substantive hearing of the cases begins.
The detailed grounds upon which the APC and PDP are challenging the election result were not contained in the notices displayed by the tribunal.
Adeleke remains the declared winner of the August 15 election pending the determination of the petitions by the tribunal.
